I am POSITIVE +
It is extremely simple to see the bad things in life right? Everywhere you look there is something that can bring you down in some way. This easily leads to a negative viewpoint. Like attracts like, we have all heard this. But have you considered that being and seeing negative means you will be attracted to more of it in your life? Who really wants more negativity to surround them?
It is honestly all in the way you look at things. It’s a personal choice!!
It would be easy for me to see lots of negatives in my life…… Today (as I write this) marks the 11 year anniversary of a back injury that took away my ability to do so many things. And, not just little things either. I am talking about the ability to have even one pain-free day of life, hold a full or part-time job, drive more than 45 minutes without worrying I will not be able to get myself home, enjoy the sports I loved….. and even have children. To say it was a life altering day is an understatement.
Even my pain Doctor is amazed that I am not suffering from depression. My answer to her is simple really – I CHOOSE to see the positives in life!! I am alive, I am not in a wheelchair, I have the freedom to help family through medical issues because I don’t have a job to report to daily, I can “borrow” the children of my friends and family to do the fun stuff in life then send them home for daily life and discipline, I can help others through their own injuries, I live in a country where I am able to receive treatments for my pain without it costing me a fortune (although the needles are not so much on my positive list lol), and I have found a home-based business (other than my sewing) that lets me get out of the house now and then without having to carry heavy bags around. These are just a few of the many things I could list.
We all have aspects of our life that are amazing. Why do we so easily overlook them in favour of the negative? Because it is easy. At least that was my answer. Then I decided to take ownership and steer my life in a much more positive direction…. one thought at a time.
It is literally just like a light switch. Once you flip that switch, your life literally looks so different, and so much better! There are tonnes of clichés on the topic like “there is always a silver lining” or “when life gives you lemons make lemonade.” But what if you just omitted dwelling on the negative to begin with? You cannot stop things from happening (unless you have some magic crystal ball, then we need to talk! Lol); you can determine how you react to them.
Start simple: find 2 positives about your day. I know, it is difficult at first but trust me, it is sooooo worth your effort! Start adding more “required” positives as it becomes easier to think of things for each day. Soon you will see way more positives than negatives. Once you start recognizing the positives, they seem to multiply (remember like attracts like). Maybe write them down or have a positivity accountability partner.
As soon as you are aware of a negative thought, ask yourself to find a positive about the situation. Soon enough you will find that you don’t even pay much attention to the majority of the negatives that come along because you can see the good in the situation.
People like to be around other positive people. It is very uplifting. Once I switched my viewpoint I realized that people are always telling me how positive I am – even strangers! I feel so much better about life in general. The rain means my grass and flowers are being watered without me having to do it. Just realizing (at 3:32 pm) that I forgot to take some meat out of the freezer for hubby’s dinner means I can make a much more simple meal and spend more time accomplishing things off my to do list today. My sore back today means that I have time to sit and write this for my lovely friend.
I am POSITIVE that you can do this too!
So, the choice is yours: do you want to see the rain or the rainbow?
